    Care Guidelines

    Aquarium Setup:
The Long-Nosed Whiptail thrives in aquariums of 120 liters or more, with a soft substrate to protect its delicate body. Provide plenty of driftwood, rocks, and plants for grazing and hiding. Moderate water flow and excellent filtration are essential to replicate its natural riverine habitat.

    Water Parameters:

    • Temperature: 22°C – 28°C
    • pH Range: 6.0 – 7.5
    • Water Hardness: Soft to moderately hard (2 – 15 dGH)
Maintain stable water conditions with regular water changes to ensure optimal health for this species.

    Diet:
The Long-Nosed Whiptail primarily grazes on algae and biofilm, but it also requires supplemental feeding. Offer sinking algae wafers, spirulina tablets, and blanched vegetables such as zucchini and spinach. Occasional protein-rich foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp can be provided to ensure a balanced diet.

    Behavior and Compatibility:
This peaceful fish is an excellent addition to community tanks with other non-aggressive species. Suitable tankmates include tetras, rasboras, Corydoras, and small cichlids. Avoid housing with aggressive or large predatory fish that may intimidate or outcompete the Whiptail for food.

    Growth and Maintenance:

The Long-Nosed Whiptail can grow up to 18–20 cm and has a lifespan of up to 10 years with proper care. Its slender body and extended fins make it a striking feature in the aquarium. Regular tank maintenance, including substrate cleaning and monitoring water quality, is essential for its long-term health.
