    Product Details

    • Species: Favia sp.
    • Common Names: Moon Coral, Brain Coral
    • Origin: Indo-Pacific Region
    • Lighting Requirements: Moderate to high
    • Flow Requirements: Moderate
    • Care Level: Easy to Moderate

    Care Guidelines

    Reef Aquarium Setup:
Moon Corals thrive in stable reef aquariums with moderate to high lighting, such as provided by LED or T5 lighting systems. Place them on a sandy substrate or on low rockwork to ensure proper lighting and water flow. Avoid placing them too close to other corals, as their sweeper tentacles can harm nearby species.

    Water Parameters:

    • Temperature: 24°C – 27°C
    • pH Range: 8.1 – 8.4
    • Salinity: 1.023 – 1.025 SG
    • Water Hardness: 8 – 12 dKH

    Diet:
While Moon Corals rely on photosynthetic zooxanthellae for much of their energy, supplemental feeding is beneficial. Target feed with coral foods such as phytoplankton, zooplankton, or finely chopped meaty foods like mysis shrimp or brine shrimp. Feed 2–3 times a week to encourage growth and maintain vibrant coloration.

    Behavior and Compatibility:
Moon Corals are generally peaceful but can extend sweeper tentacles to defend their space. Ensure adequate distance from other corals to prevent potential damage. They are reef-safe and compatible with a variety of fish and invertebrates, provided tankmates do not pick at them.

    Growth and Maintenance:

Moon Corals grow slowly but steadily, forming dome-like structures or flat plates depending on placement and water flow. Regular water changes and consistent monitoring of water parameters are essential for their health. Providing stable tank conditions and occasional feeding will help maintain their vibrant coloration and promote healthy growth.
