    • Common Names: Blue Diamond Discus
    • Origin: Amazon River Basin (wild ancestor); selectively bred in captivity
    • Diet: Omnivore
    • Maximum Size: 15–20 cm (6–8 inches)
    • Temperament: Peaceful
    • Care Level: Moderate

    Care Guidelines

    Aquarium Setup:
Blue Diamond Discus thrive in tanks of at least 200 liters, with soft, sandy substrates and a heavily planted environment. Include driftwood, rocks, and floating plants to create shaded areas that mimic their natural habitat. Maintain low water flow and stable water parameters, as discus are sensitive to changes. They prefer warm, soft, and slightly acidic water conditions.

    Water Parameters:

    • Temperature: 27°C – 30°C
    • pH Range: 6.0 – 7.5
    • Water Hardness: Soft to moderately hard (1–8 dGH)

    Diet:
Discus are omnivorous and require a high-quality, protein-rich diet. Feed them a mix of discus-specific pellets or granules, supplemented with live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. Include occasional vegetable matter, like spirulina-based foods, for a balanced diet. Feed them 2–3 times daily in small portions.

    Behavior and Compatibility:
Blue Diamond Discus are peaceful and do best in groups of 5 or more. They are ideal for community tanks with other calm, non-aggressive species, such as tetras, Corydoras, and peaceful dwarf cichlids. Avoid housing them with boisterous or fin-nipping fish.

    Growth and Maintenance:

Blue Diamond Discus grow up to 20 cm and require regular water changes to maintain pristine conditions. Consistent monitoring of water parameters and a stable environment are essential for their health. Their vibrant coloration and regal demeanor make them a highlight of any freshwater aquarium.
