The Longnose Yellow Butterflyfish requires a well-established reef aquarium with plenty of live rock and hiding spaces to thrive. A minimum tank size of 200 litres (50 gallons) is recommended due to its size and active nature. These fish enjoy moderate lighting and clean, stable water conditions with a gentle to moderate flow.
As this species is relatively shy, providing ample rockwork and coral structures gives them places to retreat when they feel threatened. A secure lid is essential as they may occasionally jump out of the aquarium.

The Longnose Yellow Butterflyfish is generally hardy, but it requires a well-maintained aquarium with stable water parameters to thrive. It is an omnivore, feeding on a variety of foods, including high-quality flake or pellet foods, live or frozen foods such as mysis shrimp and brine shrimp, and algae-based foods.
They can be sensitive to water quality, so maintaining good filtration and performing regular water changes is important. As a reef fish, they will also benefit from the presence of live rock and corals in the tank.
Keep in a large aquarium with plenty of rockwork and live coral structures.
Ensure stable water parameters and good water flow for optimal health.
Feed a varied diet, including algae-based foods, meaty foods, and high-quality pellets or flakes.
Provide plenty of hiding spots and reduce aggression from tankmates.
Use a secure lid to prevent jumping.
The Longnose Yellow Butterflyfish is peaceful and does well with other non-aggressive species, such as:
Other peaceful Butterflyfish species
Clownfish, Gobies, and Wrasses
Reef-safe invertebrates (Shrimp, Snails)
Peaceful tangs and angelfish
It is best to avoid aggressive fish or species that may outcompete it for food. While it generally does well with other species, it may become territorial with similar-looking or similarly-sized fish.
