This wood has fantastic texture and detail, with a honeycomb-like structure. It is safe for aquariums and terrariums, and the apertures provide hiding places for shrimp and other small species. It is available in small, medium, and large.

Benefits of HoneyComb Wood

Honeycomb wood is much lighter than hard and solid wood, which makes it easy to move and transport from one place to another. Honeycomb wood is an excellent choice for those who enjoy the look of dragon stone but want to have driftwood in the tank to help lower the pH of the water.

Like other driftwood, honeycomb wood releases tannins for some time, which can cause the water to have a brownish-yellow tint. Boiling the wood and having activated carbon in the filter can help remove most tannins from the driftwood and the water column.

Precautions To Use Honeycomb Wood In Aquarium

• Driftwood can leech tannins, which can cause a slight yellow or brown tint to your water. 
• Driftwood can change water chemistry in terms of pH and hardness.
• Aquarium driftwood is buoyant and will float. Please ensure your piece is fully waterlogged before use in a planted tank, or it will float upon filling the aquarium.
• A large stone or heavy decor may be placed on top to ensure that a non-waterlogged piece of wood stays submerged.

What is honeycomb in wood?

Like surface or end checks, honeycomb is caused by a tension failure across the wood's grain, usually in the wood rays. It is typically an extension of a surface check, and the wood is tearing apart.

Is honeycomb good for you?

Honeycomb is rich in healthy antioxidants and carbohydrates, which can improve the immune system. Beeswax is a honeycomb that also contains long-chain fatty acids, which are best for the heart and lower harmful cholesterol levels.

Petrified/fossilised wood is a unique hardscape material in the hobby of aquascaping. Petrified wood is composed of wooden material which have been buried and over a very long period of time fossilised by the environment around it. This process sees the replacement of organic wooden compound replaced by mineral based materials. Depending on the mineral present in the environment petrified wood can exhibit several different colourations, our source in particular how a strong combination of deep reds, pale yellowish white and dark grey.

The other unique aspect of petrified wood is depending on how each piece is broken you can either get very straight fractures reminiscent of sedimentary mineral or very smooth flowing curves due to the grain of the wood coming out very predominantly. This allows for both contrasting textures and colours  from one hardscape type which is difficult to find in many other types.
