Zippy, colourful, and full of life, Assorted Danios are a mix of species and colour morphs from the Danio genus, including favourites like Zebra Danios (Danio rerio), Leopard Danios, and Longfin varieties. Known for their energetic schooling behaviour and resilience, they make a fantastic addition to community aquariums of all sizes.

These hardy little fish are excellent for beginners and experienced hobbyists alike, adding constant motion and sparkle to the upper levels of your tank.

Species: Danio spp.
Common Names: Zebra Danio, Leopard Danio, Longfin Danio, Assorted Danios
Origin: South and Southeast Asia – commonly found in fast-flowing streams and rice paddies

Light Requirements: Moderate – enhances iridescent body colouration
Diet: Omnivorous – readily accept flakes, micro pellets, frozen foods, and live offerings like daphnia or brine shrimp
Maximum Size: 4–6 cm
Temperament: Peaceful and active
Care Level: Easy

Aquarium Setup:
Best kept in groups of 6 or more in aquariums of at least 40 litres. Danios thrive in tanks with open swimming space, gentle to moderate current, and a secure lid—these fish are notorious jumpers! A planted tank with darker substrate helps bring out their natural colour, and their constant movement adds life to any aquascape.

Water Parameters:
Temperature: 20–26°C
pH: 6.5–7.5
Hardness: 5–15 dGH

Growth and Maintenance:
Danios are low-maintenance and incredibly adaptable, making them ideal for cycling new tanks. While small, they are bold and often among the first to investigate new things in the aquarium. Provide a varied diet and keep in lively schools to encourage natural behaviours.

Care Tips:
✔ Always keep in groups of 6+ to reduce stress and aggression
✔ Use a secure lid to prevent jumping
✔ Offer high-quality flakes and frozen food for best health
✔ Provide flow to mimic their natural habitat
✔ Include plants and driftwood for resting and cover

Compatibility:
Ideal tankmates for most peaceful community fish including tetras, rasboras, livebearers, Corydoras, and gouramis. Avoid pairing with slow-moving or long-finned species that may be bothered by their energy.

Availability:
Widely available in Australia in a range of colours and fin types. Often sold as mixed assortments, perfect for those looking for variety and activity.
