While we make every effort to ensure that our online stock levels are accurate and up to date, some products—particularly those that are perishable or subject to daily changes—may vary in availability. This includes livestock, fish, corals, and both fresh and frozen foods. Due to the nature of these items and their dependence on factors such as shipment schedules, health status, and in-store demand, availability can change rapidly and may not always be reflected in real time on our website.
To avoid disappointment, we strongly encourage customers to confirm the availability of these products before placing an order or visiting In-Store. You can do this easily by using the "Ask a Question" tab on the product page or by calling us directly on 0460 961 696 .
Our friendly team will be happy to assist and provide the most up-to-date information on current stock.
A hardy, peaceful, and eye-catching variant of a timeless classic, the Gold White Cloud Mountain Minnow (Tanichthys albonubes) adds a splash of warm, metallic shimmer to any freshwater setup. This selectively bred morph of the original species boasts a soft golden body with subtle red and silver highlights, making it a favourite for both beginners and seasoned aquarists.
Species: Tanichthys albonubes (Gold morph)
Common Names: Gold White Cloud, Golden White Cloud Minnow
Origin: Bred variety – wild type originates from mountain streams in southern China and northern Vietnam
Light Requirements: Moderate – colouration is enhanced under natural or full-spectrum lighting
Diet: Omnivorous – accepts micro pellets, flake foods, crushed spirulina, live/frozen daphnia, brine shrimp
Maximum Size: 3–4 cm
Temperament: Peaceful and social
Care Level: Very easy
Aquarium Setup:
Thrives in tanks of 40 litres or more, with cool, well-oxygenated water and moderate flow. A planted setup with rockwork and open swimming space mirrors their natural habitat. Keep in groups of at least six to promote schooling behaviour and reduce shyness. These minnows do especially well in unheated tanks, making them ideal for indoor setups without a heater.
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 16–24°C
pH: 6.0–8.0
Hardness: Soft to moderately hard (4–12 dGH)
Growth and Maintenance:
Gold White Clouds are incredibly hardy, long-lived for their size (up to 5 years), and adapt well to a variety of water conditions. They tolerate cooler temperatures better than most tropical species and are one of the few fish suitable for coldwater community tanks. Colour intensity improves with age and a high-quality diet.
Care Tips:
✔ No heater required – great for cooler room temps
✔ Always keep in schools to reduce stress and improve display
✔ Provide gentle flow and oxygen-rich conditions
✔ Feed small, varied meals for health and colour enhancement
✔ Ideal for nano tanks, classrooms, or beginner hobbyists
Compatibility:
Perfect for peaceful community tanks. Can be housed with danios, Corydoras, small rasboras, shrimp, snails, and other cold-tolerant species. Avoid large or aggressive tankmates that may nip fins or outcompete them at feeding time.
Availability:
Readily available in the Australian aquarium trade. Often sold in groups and ideal for nano, beginner, or temperate community tanks.
