Tall, lush, and effortlessly elegant, Nomaphila corymbosa ‘Green Temple’ is a classic freshwater stem plant known for its broad, bright green leaves and impressive vertical growth. A favourite among beginner and experienced aquarists alike, this Southeast Asian species brings a strong structural element to midground or background planting. Its fast growth, adaptability, and hardy nature make it a staple in planted tanks around the world.

Availability:
Widely available in the Australian aquarium trade, often sold in bunches or potted. Ideal for beginner and planted tank enthusiasts seeking a reliable and attractive background plant.

Disclaimer:
"As with all stem plants, appearance may vary depending on lighting, nutrients, and trimming frequency. Regular maintenance is key to keeping plants full and healthy."

Species: Nomaphila corymbosa ‘Green Temple’
Common Names: Green Temple, Temple Plant, Nomaphila
Origin: Southeast Asia – particularly Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia
Light Requirements: Low to moderate – grows under a variety of lighting conditions
CO₂ Requirements: Optional – benefits from supplementation but not essential
Growth Rate: Fast
Maximum Height: 30–60 cm
Placement: Midground to background

Aquarium Setup:
This plant thrives in tanks of 60 litres or more, and prefers a nutrient-rich substrate for optimal root development. It does well in low-tech and high-tech setups alike and can tolerate a wide range of conditions. Given its height and large leaf structure, it's best placed toward the back or along tank corners to frame layouts and provide cover for shy fish. When grown emersed, it may produce small violet flowers.

Water Parameters:
Temperature: 22–28°C
pH: 6.0–7.5
Hardness: 4–15 dGH

Growth and Maintenance:
Nomaphila corymbosa grows quickly and responds well to trimming. It can become top-heavy, so regular topping encourages lateral shoots and a bushier appearance. Pruned tops can be replanted to propagate. Lower leaves may yellow if shaded, so consider spacing stems or trimming regularly to ensure light penetration. A great oxygenator and nutrient absorber—ideal for combating algae in new or heavily stocked tanks.

Care Tips:
✔ Lighting: Moderate lighting supports bushier, compact growth
✔ CO₂: Optional – boosts growth and colouration
✔ Trimming: Top regularly to manage height and improve density
✔ Fertilisation: Supplement with root tabs and liquid ferts for robust health
✔ Propagation: Replant cuttings or allow side shoots to grow naturally

Compatibility:
Excellent for peaceful community tanks. Its large leaves offer shade and cover for smaller fish and shrimp. Suitable for tanks with tetras, rasboras, gouramis, dwarf cichlids, and more. Not ideal for tanks with large herbivores like goldfish or silver dollars.
