While we make every effort to ensure that our online stock levels are accurate and up to date, some products—particularly those that are perishable or subject to daily changes—may vary in availability. This includes livestock, fish, corals, and both fresh and frozen foods. Due to the nature of these items and their dependence on factors such as shipment schedules, health status, and in-store demand, availability can change rapidly and may not always be reflected in real time on our website.
To avoid disappointment, we strongly encourage customers to confirm the availability of these products before placing an order or visiting In-Store. You can do this easily by using the "Ask a Question" tab on the product page or by calling us directly on 0460 961 696 .

A brilliant splash of iridescent blue with a calm, inquisitive nature, the Coral Blue Dwarf Gourami (Trichogaster lalius) is a popular centrepiece fish in peaceful freshwater aquariums. This selectively bred variant of the standard Dwarf Gourami boasts an electric blue body with subtle coral or turquoise hues, making it a standout in any planted or community tank. Hardy, personable, and relatively easy to care for, it’s a perfect choice for beginners and aquascapers alike.
Species: Trichogaster lalius (Coral Blue variant)
Common Names: Coral Blue Dwarf Gourami, Powder Blue Gourami, Blue Dwarf Gourami
Origin: Bred variant – native species originates from India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan
Light Requirements: Moderate – thrives in well-lit, planted tanks
Diet: Omnivorous – enjoys a mix of high-quality flakes, micro pellets, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and vegetable-based foods
Maximum Size: 6–7 cm
Temperament: Peaceful, though may be territorial with other gouramis
Care Level: Easy
Aquarium Setup:
Best suited to freshwater aquariums of 60 litres or more, ideally with live plants, gentle flow, and plenty of coverlike driftwood, floating plants, or tall stems. Coral Blue Dwarf Gouramis are labyrinth fish, meaning they breathe atmospheric air—so a calm surface and warm temperatures are important. They do best when kept singly or as a male-female pair to avoid territorial behaviour between males.
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 24–28°C
pH: 6.0–7.5
Hardness: Soft to moderately hard (4–12 dGH)
Growth and Maintenance:
These gouramis are generally hardy and easy to care for, provided they are kept in a stress-free, well-maintained tank. Males display the brightest colouration, particularly when healthy and well-fed. They are not fast swimmers and appreciate quiet tankmates and areas to retreat. Avoid loud filtration or boisterous fish that may outcompete them for food.
Care Tips:
✔ Avoid housing multiple males in small tanks to reduce aggression
✔ Use floating plants to provide shade and security
✔ Feed a varied diet to maintain colour and immunity
✔ Perform regular water changes to maintain excellent water quality
✔ Cover the tank – labyrinth fish are known to jump
Compatibility:
Peaceful and community-friendly. Pairs well with tetras, rasboras, Corydoras, small loaches, shrimp, and other calm species. Avoid fin-nippers like tiger barbs or anything aggressive.
Availability:
Widely available in the Australian aquarium trade. Sold as juveniles or semi-adults, often already displaying strong blue colouration. Ask us about female availability for pair setups or peaceful nano tank companions.
Disclaimer:
"Coral Blue Dwarf Gouramis are peaceful and visually striking, but males may become territorial if housed together in small tanks."
