Delicate and fast-growing, Limnophila brownii is a graceful stem plant ideal for midground or background placement in freshwater aquascapes. With its finely feathered leaves and soft green to reddish tones under high light, this species adds texture, movement, and a natural “bushland” feel to planted tanks. Native to Southeast Asia, it thrives in tropical aquariums with stable water conditions and responds well to regular trimming and propagation.

Availability:
Occasionally available through Australian aquarium retailers and plant nurseries. Often sold in bunches or pots. Ask us about availability, portion sizes, or compatibility with your current tank layout.

Disclaimer:
"As with all aquatic plants, appearance and growth may vary depending on tank conditions, lighting, and care routines."

Species: Limnophila brownii
Common Names: Limnophila Brownii, Brownii Ambulia (often mislabelled as Limnophila indica)
Origin: Southeast Asia – still and slow-flowing waters in India, Thailand, Vietnam, and neighbouring regions
Light Requirements: Moderate to high – higher light encourages bushier growth and red hues
CO₂ Requirements: Beneficial but not essential – enhanced growth with injection
Growth Rate: Fast
Maximum Height: 20–40 cm
Placement: Midground to background

Aquarium Setup:
Limnophila brownii thrives in planted aquariums with stable parameters, soft to moderate lighting, and nutrient-rich substrates. A well-lit tank will encourage denser foliage and colouration, while CO₂ supplementation and regular fertilisation boost growth and vibrancy. It prefers calm to moderate flow and looks best when planted in small clusters that can grow into soft, swaying thickets.

Water Parameters:
Temperature: 22–28°C
pH: 6.0–7.5
Hardness: 3–12 dGH

Growth and Maintenance:
This plant is fast-growing and can quickly fill out space, making it perfect for newly established tanks or filling out sparse scapes. Regular trimming is necessary to maintain shape and prevent it from overshadowing other plants. Tops can be re-planted to propagate new stems, while older lower sections can be thinned or removed as needed. If left untended, it may grow leggy in low light or nutrient-poor conditions.

Care Tips:
✔ Lighting: Use moderate to strong lighting for compact growth
✔ Trimming: Regularly top and replant for a bushier look
✔ Substrate: Nutrient-rich substrate promotes healthy roots
✔ Fertilisation: Liquid and root ferts support lush growth
✔ CO₂: Optional but recommended for dense, vibrant foliage

Compatibility:
Compatible with most peaceful freshwater setups. Perfect for aquascapes with tetras, rasboras, gouramis, and shrimp. Its fine leaves offer excellent cover for fry and small invertebrates. Avoid housing with plant-munching fish like goldfish or large cichlids.
