While we make every effort to ensure that our online stock levels are accurate and up to date, some products—particularly those that are perishable or subject to daily changes—may vary in availability. This includes livestock, fish, corals, and both fresh and frozen foods. Due to the nature of these items and their dependence on factors such as shipment schedules, health status, and in-store demand, availability can change rapidly and may not always be reflected in real time on our website.
To avoid disappointment, we strongly encourage customers to confirm the availability of these products before placing an order or visiting In-Store. You can do this easily by using the "Ask a Question" tab on the product page or by calling us directly on 0460 961 696 .

Arguably the most recognisable marine fish in the world, the Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) is beloved for its bold orange body, black-edged white bands, and playful personality. Famous as the “Nemo” fish, this hardy and adaptable species makes an ideal choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists. Its natural symbiosis with anemones, coupled with its entertaining swimming style, makes it a centrepiece in reef and marine aquariums.
Species: Amphiprion ocellaris
Common Names: Ocellaris Clownfish, Common Clownfish, False Percula Clownfish, Nemo
Origin: Indo-Pacific – shallow reefs and lagoons from northern Australia to Southeast Asia
Light Requirements: Moderate to high – thrives in reef aquarium lighting
Diet: Omnivorous – enjoys a mix of marine flakes, pellets, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and algae-based foods
Maximum Size: 8–11 cm
Temperament: Peaceful to semi-aggressive – may become territorial when paired or hosting an anemone
Care Level: Easy
Aquarium Setup:
Ocellaris Clownfish thrive in aquariums of 100 litres or more. They are reef-safe and adapt well to both fish-only and reef systems. While not dependent on anemones in captivity, they will often host in anemones or suitable coral substitutes if available. Provide stable water conditions, moderate flow, and open swimming areas alongside live rock for security.
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 24–27°C
pH: 8.1–8.4
Salinity: 1.023–1.025
Hardness: 8–12 dKH
Growth and Maintenance:
Hardy and long-lived, Ocellaris Clownfish can live 10 years or more in captivity. They are sequential hermaphrodites—starting life as males, with the dominant fish in a pair becoming female. They thrive on a varied diet and regular feeding, with juveniles growing steadily into their iconic colours.
Care Tips:
✔ Keep singly, in pairs, or small groups (introduce at the same time to reduce aggression)
✔ Provide anemones (e.g., Heteractis magnifica, Stichodactyla gigantea) or soft corals for natural hosting if desired
✔ Avoid aggressive tankmates in smaller aquariums
✔ Maintain high water quality for long-term health
✔ Feed small, frequent meals for best colour and growth
Compatibility:
Excellent community fish when housed with peaceful reef species. Ideal companions include gobies, blennies, tangs, wrasses, and damselfish. Can become territorial in smaller tanks or when spawning.
Availability:
One of the most widely available marine fish in the Australian trade. Offered as both wild-caught and sustainably captive-bred, with many colour morphs (black, platinum, snowflake) also popular.
Disclaimer:
As live animals, Ocellaris Clownfish may vary in size, markings, and colour intensity depending on age, genetics, and environment.
