While we make every effort to ensure that our online stock levels are accurate and up to date, some products—particularly those that are perishable or subject to daily changes—may vary in availability. This includes livestock, fish, corals, and both fresh and frozen foods. Due to the nature of these items and their dependence on factors such as shipment schedules, health status, and in-store demand, availability can change rapidly and may not always be reflected in real time on our website.
To avoid disappointment, we strongly encourage customers to confirm the availability of these products before placing an order or visiting In-Store. You can do this easily by using the "Ask a Question" tab on the product page or by calling us directly on 0460 961 696 .

Flashing brilliant shades of sapphire and sunburst yellow, the Neon Damselfish (Pomacentrus coelestis) is a small but striking marine species known for its hardiness, confidence, and electric colouring. Common across Indo-Pacific reefs—including the Great Barrier Reef—this energetic little fish adds a splash of vivid blue and yellow to marine tanks, while remaining a tough and easy-care choice for beginners and seasoned aquarists alike.
Species: Pomacentrus coelestis
Common Names: Neon Damselfish, Blue and Gold Damselfish, Celestial Damselfish
Origin: Indo-Pacific – from East Africa to Fiji, including northern Australia and the GBR
Light Requirements: Moderate – reef lighting enhances colour
Diet: Omnivorous – accepts high-quality marine flakes, pellets, frozen foods (mysis, brine shrimp), and occasional algae
Maximum Size: 6–7 cm
Temperament: Semi-aggressive, especially when defending territory
Care Level: Easy
Aquarium Setup:
Best kept in a marine aquarium of 80 litres or more, with plenty of live rock to create hiding spots and break up territories. Neon Damselfish are territorial and may become nippy toward more passive tankmates in smaller tanks, especially when kept singly. In larger systems, they can be kept in small groups, ideally introduced at the same time to reduce aggression.
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 24–27°C
pH: 8.1–8.4
Salinity: 1.023–1.025
Alkalinity: 8–12 dKH
Calcium: 400–450 ppm
Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
Growth and Maintenance:
This species is hardy and long-lived, making it excellent for new reef keepers. It’s active during the day and generally reef-safe, though it may defend small patches of rock or coral. Neon Damselfish maintain their vivid colour well in captivity, especially with a balanced diet and clean, well-oxygenated water.
Care Tips:
✔ Provide rockwork or coral structures to establish territory
✔ Avoid overcrowding or mixing with timid species in smaller tanks
✔ Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily
✔ Introduce in groups or pairs in larger tanks to disperse aggression
✔ Excellent candidate for beginner marine setups or nano reefs (with caution)
Compatibility:
Compatible with a wide range of reef-safe species, including gobies, blennies, wrasses, clownfish, and tangs. May harass more timid species if housed in small tanks. Generally reef-safe with corals and inverts.
Availability:
Regularly available in the Australian marine trade. Locally collected specimens may offer improved acclimation and colour retention. Ask us about group discounts or compatibility with existing tankmates.
Disclaimer:
"As a semi-aggressive species, Neon Damselfish may not be suitable for tanks with shy or passive fish. Introduce with care and provide ample space to establish territory."
