While we make every effort to ensure that our online stock levels are accurate and up to date, some products—particularly those that are perishable or subject to daily changes—may vary in availability. This includes livestock, fish, corals, and both fresh and frozen foods. Due to the nature of these items and their dependence on factors such as shipment schedules, health status, and in-store demand, availability can change rapidly and may not always be reflected in real time on our website.
To avoid disappointment, we strongly encourage customers to confirm the availability of these products before placing an order or visiting In-Store. You can do this easily by using the "Ask a Question" tab on the product page or by calling us directly on 0460 961 696 .

Small in size but big on colour, the Talbot’s Damselfish (Chrysiptera talboti) is a peaceful and eye-catching reef dweller, instantly recognisable by its pastel lavender body and sunny yellow face. One of the more mellow members of the damselfish family, this charming species brings both beauty and harmony to smaller marine aquariums, making it an ideal choice for nano reef enthusiasts and peaceful community setups.
Species: Chrysiptera talboti
Common Names: Talbot’s Damselfish, Talbot’s Demoiselle
Origin: Western Pacific – coral-rich lagoons and outer reefs from Indonesia to the Great Barrier Reef
Light Requirements: Moderate – colours pop under reef lighting
Diet: Omnivorous – eats high-quality marine flakes, pellets, frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and marine algae
Maximum Size: 5–6 cm
Temperament: Peaceful to mildly territorial
Care Level: Easy
Aquarium Setup:
Best suited for marine aquariums of 60 litres or more, Talbot’s Damsels enjoy a well-aquascaped tank with plenty of rockwork and hiding spots. While less aggressive than other damselfish, they may defend a favourite nook if space is limited. Their manageable size and calm temperament make them perfect for nano reefs and beginner saltwater aquariums. They can be kept singly, in pairs, or small groups if introduced simultaneously.
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 24–27°C
pH: 8.1–8.4
Salinity: 1.023–1.025
Alkalinity: 8–12 dKH
Calcium: 400–450 ppm
Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
Growth and Maintenance:
Talbot’s Damselfish are hardy and long-lived, with excellent adaptability to captive conditions. They thrive in clean, stable water and require minimal maintenance beyond regular feeding and tank upkeep. Their soft pastel colouring becomes even more vibrant with good nutrition and reef lighting.
Care Tips:
✔ Introduce in groups for more natural behaviour (if space allows)
✔ Provide live rock or coral structure to reduce stress
✔ Feed small, frequent meals – they’re not fussy eaters
✔ Avoid keeping with highly aggressive or much larger fish
✔ Secure tank covers are optional but recommended
Compatibility:
Ideal for peaceful reef communities. Gets along well with clownfish, gobies, cardinalfish, firefish, and blennies. Avoid aggressive tankmates or other damselfish species unless tank size allows for multiple territories.
Availability:
Occasionally available in the Australian marine trade. A fantastic alternative to more boisterous damselfish for hobbyists seeking colour and calm. Ask us about availability for nano reef stocking or peaceful marine bundles.
Disclaimer:
"As with all damselfish, temperament can vary by individual. Best introduced last in smaller tanks to avoid territory disputes with shy species."
